The WSHS Theatre Group welcomes all high school students attending Winona Senior High School or homeschool regardless of their experience level. For each production, we need actors and crew. Actors perform on stage, while our crew includes people working on set building, running lights and sound, gathering costumes and props, and managing the flow of set changes during the performance. There are three opportunities to participate each year: Musical, One Act, and Spring play.
The Musical runs September through November. The One Act play runs December through early February and is a state competition activity. The Spring play takes place mid-February through late April or early May. Actors audition for roles; however, everyone who auditions for the musical or spring play will receive an on-stage part. The One Act is limited by state regulations, therefore only 20 participants are allowed at competition. Rehearsals are typically held Monday through Thursday from 3:45 - 6:45pm in the auditorium. Roles are decided by who is right for the part, not experience level, grade, gender, or age.
Working as a team makes the productions successful, therefore we begin each season with team building activities. During this time, actors also work on stage skills such as: emoting, projection, movement, and articulation, while the crew learns more about lighting, sound, and working with tools. We all participate in getting comfortable with each other and gaining energy through our warm-ups! Debbie Berhow, the Director, can be reached by emailing debbieberhow@gmail.com. Never thought of yourself as a “Theatre” person? Give us a try; we just might change your mind.
