Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

At Winona Area Public Schools, we believe that every student deserves a school environment where they feel safe, supported, and valued. That’s why we proudly implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)—a proven framework used by more than 860 schools across Minnesota to foster positive school climates.

Here, PBIS comes to life through The Winhawk Way — our shared commitment to treating ourselves, each other, and our school community with care and respect. These expectations guide behavior throughout the school day, on school property, in school vehicles, at events, and in any setting where student conduct can impact our learning environment.

For our youngest learners in grades K-4, The Winhawk Way is introduced through Herky’s Code — a simple and empowering message to be respectful, be responsible, and be safe.

Because when students know what’s expected and feel supported, they are ready to learn, grow, and thrive — and we are ready to help them every step of the way.
