Meals will be free to all students 18 and under to begin the school year

Hello WAPS families -

We recently received some fantastic news! Our School Nutrition department has received additional funding and will be able to provide free meals to students for at least a portion of the school year — including students who are in distance learning.

For students who will be attending school as part of the hybrid or for Key Kids School Age Care, the free meals will begin this week. Meal orders will be taken by the classroom teacher.

For distance learning students, families can fill out a one-time order form and will be able to pick up meals on Wednesdays at four locations in Winona:

  • Winona Senior High School, 901 Gilmore Ave., Winona, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. OR noon to 12:30 p.m.
  • Winona Middle School, 1570 Homer Road, Winona, noon to 12:30 p.m.
  • Maplewood Townhomes, 1756 Kraemer Drive, Winona, noon to 12:30 p.m.
  • East End Recreation Center, 210 Zumbrota Street, Winona, noon to 12:30 p.m.

Families can order meals for one, three or five days. Meals will include both breakfast and lunch.

For more information, visit the School Nutrition section of the WAPS Safe Learning Plan.

The free meals will be available until the beginning of Winter Break (Thursday, Dec. 24) or until funds are exhausted.

In order to make this sustainable, we need all families to fill out a free and reduced lunch application. Funding for schools depends on our free and reduced percentage, and we need to make sure our numbers are accurately reported to the state.

To apply, fill out the form on Infinite Campus or see winonaschools.org for more details.
