Youth Art Month

Youth Art Month

March is Youth Art Month. Winona Area Public Schools will have K-12 student artwork on display in our community this month. Youth Art Month allows members of the community to view student art in numerous venues throughout Winona. 2019 YAM artwork will be displayed at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, Winona National Bank, The Winona Mall, Home Federal, Nate & Ally's Frozen Treat Creations and Wells Fargo Banks. WAPS District Art teachers, Shannon Kline, Betsy Tschumper, Jeff Morgan, Sherry Dahlen, Matthew Wagner and Tanya Corcoran facilitate this event and team together to prepare student artwork for display at these venues.

Youth Art Month is an event that is nationally observed by many schools throughout the country. This program promotes the overall value of art and quality school art programs. Youth Art Month is a time for showcasing student art, but it is also an important time to celebrate the overall benefit of art programs in general. Art education and art creation is linked to student growth and achievement in other content areas. Art allows students to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, it promotes creativity, and is thought to enhance overall academic performance.

Community members are encouraged to visit these locations and enjoy the art that young artists have created. It is also a great opportunity for WAPS students, at all grade levels, to see their artwork showcased outside of a school setting.
