WSHS students use virtual welding machine

Students in Jerry Benedict’s Career and Technical Education classes at Winona Senior High School can get real life experience without leaving the building.

We want to thank St. Cloud State University for letting us use the Augmented Arc, an augmented reality welding system from Miller. This machine closely resembles live arc welding and is ideal for beginning and intermediate level students. The system includes a special helmet that shows students computer-generated images of the metal workpieces, weld arcs and weld beads. Students get feedback on their ability to maintain welding parameters in real-time, and instructors like Mr. Benedict are able to view videos of the welding exercise to evaluate performance.
