WSHS AVID College Visit

WSHS AVID College Visit

The WSHS AVID College Prep students journeyed south to Iowa Wed., March 20, to view the college campuses at Luther College and Northeast Iowa Community College.

The AVID approach starts with the end in mind - to prepare students to be college and career ready. College visits are a vital part of this vision, opening windows to a world many students have not imagined and sparking interest in opportunities they had never before considered. Walking among enrolled students on a college campus reminds high school students that they are not so different from those scholars, and that they, too, can achieve at high levels.

Students had the opportunity on this visit to ask questions of Luther admissions staff and current students, to see a college dorm room, and walk the halls of the historic campus. After a short bus ride, AVID scholars learned how technology and agriculture have merged when they toured the world-class dairy facilities at NE Iowa Community College, and even got to pet a cow!

The next visit WSHS AVID College Prep will take will be to a career experience day at Chippewa Valley Technical College, where students will be able to choose one of 14 career-track options to experience in a hands-on environment.

The entire AVID program would like to express their gratitude to the Winona Education Association for their generous funding of the associated bus expenses for this trip.
