The Winona Senior High School boys hockey team is on a roll.
Roman Grulkowski’s power-play goal lifted the Winhawks to a 5-4 overtime victory over Rochester John Marshall on Tuesday night at the Rochester Recreation Center. The win is the fourth in Winona’s last six contests and the Winhawks improved to 6-4-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the Big 9 Conference.
The OT goal finished a hat trick for Grulkowski, who leads the team with 14 goals and 22 points, and came on an assist from Marshall Kitzmann. Grulkowski also tied the game at 4-all in the third period off an assist from Eric Paulson. His goal in the second period was assisted by Matt Thesing and Kai Kovala.
Ayden Ruesgen scored a first-period goal on assists from Alex Charles and Paulson.
Paulson lit the lamp in the second period on a short-handed goal for a 3-1 lead. Rochester JM scored the next three goals to take a 4-3 lead before Grulkowski tied it.
Brayden McDevitt made 32 saves for Winona, which hosts Mankato East at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Bud King Ice Arena.
Winona JV 2, Red Wing 0: The Winhawks blanked the Wingers at Bud King Ice Arena. Winona, which is fielding a co-op girls hockey team with Cotter and La Crescent after a two-year absence, has two more home games this year — on Jan. 17 vs. Albert Lea and Jan. 31 vs. St. Peter.
Winona 67, Kasson-Mantorville 54: Jackson Nibbelink and Ethan Prodzinski each scored 15 points while Parker Jones added 13 as the Winhawks (6-5) won for the fourth time in five games. Winona is on the road at Owatonna on Friday.
