Winona Area Public SchoolsThe Winona School Board conducted first round interviews with six (6) candidates on Friday, May 10, 2019 and Saturday, May 11, 2019 and deliberated to narrow that selection to the following three (3) finalist candidates.
Annette Freiheit, Superintendent of Schools at Pine City Schools, Pine City, MN. Ms. Freiheit received her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education and Recreational Therapy, and her Masters of Science in Educational Leadership at Winona State University. She also completed her education administration licensure program for her District Superintendent and K-12 Principal license from Winona State University as well. She is receiving her Doctorate of Education and K-12 Reading licensure from Hamline University. Ms. Freiheit has been the Superintendent at Pine City since 2016. From 2002 until 2016, she served as an Elementary Principal at Hayfield Public Schools in Hayfield and Brownsdale, MN. Ms. Freiheit has also served as an Elementary Teacher, Curriculum and Testing Director, and Graduation Standards Director.
James Wagner, Superintendent of Schools at Johnson County School District, Buffalo, WY. Mr. Wagner received his Bachelors of Arts in Biology and Secondary Education from St. John’s University, Masters in Education from St. Scholastica, completed his Administration license program from St. Mary’s College, and is currently completing his Doctoral program at the University of Wyoming. Mr. Wagner has been the Superintendent at Johnson County since 2018. From 2014 to 2018, he was the Superintendent at Kimball Area Schools. Mr. Wagner has also served as a Principal, Assistant Principal, and Science Teacher.
Randi Anderson, Superintendent of Schools at Pelican Rapids, Pelican Rapids, MN. Ms. Anderson received her Bachelors of Arts in Education and Mathematics and her Masters of Arts in Administration from the University of North Dakota. She received her Educational Leadership and Superintendent Licensure from Viterbo University. Ms. Anderson has been the Superintendent at Pelican Rapids since 2017. From 2014 until 2017, she served as the Director of Personalized Learning and Instruction at Eden Prairie Schools. Ms. Anderson has also served as a Director of Learning and Teaching, Standards, Assessment and Program Improvement Supervisor, Director of Assessment and Accountability, Research Associate, an Elementary Mathematics Coordinator, and an Elementary Teacher.
These candidates are scheduled for finalist interviews to be held on May 14, 15 and 16, 2019. Staff and Community members are invited and encouraged to attend a Staff and Community Q&A Session with each candidate. On May 14, 2019, Staff and Community members in attendance will be asked to write down questions they might like to ask the finalist candidates. MSBA will organize the questions and ask those same questions of each finalist candidate. Please note only questions asked on May 14, 2019, will be asked of the candidates scheduled on May 15 and May 16 for consistency purposes. These sessions will be held in the Winona Senior High School Learning Commons, 901 Gilmore Avenue, at 5:00pm. A quorum or more of the School Board may be present during these sessions.
Following the Staff and Community Q&A sessions, the School Board will conduct interviews with the finalist candidates. These interviews will be held in the Winona Senior High School Learning Commons, 901 Gilmore Avenue, at 6:15pm. These interviews are open to the public.
