W-K What I Need Shelf

The W-K What I Need (WIN) Shelf is a collaborative project with W-K School Improvement Team, W-K PTA, and the Elizabeth Callendar King Foundation. Its intent is to provide a space for families and students to access small food, hygiene, or household items they may need, especially if they wish to do so anonymously. This is also a space where families can connect with school staff who might be able to help in accessing resources in the community to help with any longer-term struggles. This year we have found the shelf supplies in the main office, and overflow supplies in the School Social Worker’s office to be hugely beneficial to our students. Our staff feeds and clothes kids all the time from the shelf and its supplies for many reasons. From late arrivals who have missed breakfast, kids simply not having enough to eat between home and school lunch, having an accident and needing a change of clothes, or needing an emergency toiletry item, this supply of goods benefits all of our kids at W-K.

Some things we are running low on currently are:

  • Easy, non-perishable snacks for our hungry students (ie: granola bars, small bags of crackers, breakfast biscuits, etc.)

  • NEW clothing bottoms (ie: various sizes of stretchy leggings and sweatpants). In particular, we are a very low supply of larger sized pants for our older/taller kids. These kids are less likely to need a change of clothes but it still happens!

  • NEW clothing tops (ie: various sizes of T shirts and long sleeved shirts

  • Children’s' snow boots and snow pants in various sizes (gently used, in good shape)
