Throwback Thursday: One Act Play won the Region One competition in 1973

1973 One Act Play

In 1973, the Winona Senior High School One Act Play took top honors at the Region One competition in Austin, Minn.

For this week’s #WinhawkTBT, we take a look back at the One Act Play cast in 1973.

The cast’s performance of Tennessee Williams’  “27 Wagons Full of Cotton” took first place at the Region One High School Drama Contest in Austin, Minn., and advanced to take part in the MSHSL State Festival in Coon Rapids, Minn.

Pictured, from left, is director Rodney Oppriecht, Dawn Rader, Arnie Bergland, Cindy Savage, Debbie Hicks and Joe Berkman. Savage was named “best actress.” She also won the same honor a week earlier at the district meet at Pine Island.

Forty-seven years later, the WSHS Theatre Group will try to match that success. The students are getting ready to present “A Memory of Harold” at the MSHSL subsection competition on Friday, Jan. 24. Public performances will be held at 1 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the high school. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for students.
