For this week’s #WinhawkTBT, we look back at the Winona High cheerleaders during the 1977-78 school year.

According to the school yearbook, because of practice time conflicts during the winter sports season, new rules required that cheerleaders not go out for a sport during their cheering term. As a result, 12 A-squad (or varsity) cheerleaders were chosen and divided into cheering teams. Six cheered for wrestling and swimming and six for basketball. Six B-squad cheerleaders were on hand to cheer as well.

Pictured are the A squad cheerleaders for basketball. They were, from left: Linda Vetsch, Kathy VanKirk, Cindy Gunderson, Lisa McKenna, Krys Cornwell and Siri Martin.

Other cheerleaders included Beth Keister, Lisa Miller, Melody Baron, Connie Tropple, Carrie Kern, Cindy Luke, Linda Ulbrech, Janet Neiburg, Jean Johnson, Ann Zehren and Corinne Drazkowski.

The adviser was Mrs. Mia Martin.
