A bump up in class seemed to bring out the best in the Winhawk Dance Team.
Twenty years ago, the 1999-2000 team made the move from Class AA to Class AAA. The team started the season at the Just for Kix dance camp perfecting new, challenging routines the girls planned to unleash during the winter competitive season.
"The girls didn't choreograph harder dances because they're now in AAA, they choreographed harder dances because they knew they could do it," coach Alicia Anderson said in the 2000 Radiograph. "They pushed themselves to reach the level they're at now."
The yearbook called it the most successful in the team's history, boasting achievements such as second place in high kick precision at the AAA Faribault Invitational, first place in both high kick and jazz at the Winona Winter Classic Competition and fifth place in high precision at the section meet.
Team captains included Emilie Bulman, Missy Calvey, Melissa Flom, Tiana Kronebusch and Jenny Randklev.
Forty students tried out for the team, and 20 were selected for the varsity and 10 more for the JV.
