Three student musicians from WSHS receive All-State honors

All-State Musicians

Three junior students from Winona Senior High School have been selected to perform as part of the 2020-2021 All-State Music Ensembles.

Each year, hundreds of students from across the state audition to participate in the symphony orchestra, choir, bands, and jazz band at the state level. This year, Hannah Sheridan made it into the All-State Orchestra cello section for a second year in a row. String bass player Grant Hamsund also made it into the All-State Orchestra. Daniel Florness was accepted into the All-State Band on tuba.

In place of the traditional summer camp sponsored by the Minnesota Music Educators Association, plans are in process to add more breadth to the mid-winter rehearsals and concert that the All-State ensembles perform at Orchestra Hall downtown Minneapolis.

Hannah is the daughter of Melanie and Dan Sheridan. Grant is the son of Melissa and Chris Hamsund. Daniel is the son of Jennie and Daniel Florness Sr. All three of these musicians represent a small and select number of sought-after seats, achieved by their focus, effort, and level of musicianship. Hannah, Grant and Daniel are all active in extra ensembles through WAPS such as jazz band and the Winona Fiddlers, and leaders within their daily WAPS music ensembles.
