Superintendent reads to Getting Ready Together students

On Monday, Aug. 12, Winona Area Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Annette Freiheit spent part of her morning reading to the Getting Ready Together program at Washington-Kosciusko Elementary School. Freiheit, a former elementary school teacher who loves to read children’s books to groups of all ages, picked three of her favorites to read to the kids: “One” by Kathryn Otoshi, “The Book With No Pictures” by B.J. Novak and “Underwear” by Mary Elise Monsell.

The Getting Ready Together program is a free eight-week summer intensive preschool opportunity with a focus on early reading and math skills. It’s intended to increase a child’s readiness to enter kindergarten and designed to serve children who have never had a preschool experience or who are entering kindergarten in the fall and would benefit from some additional classroom experience.
