It’s one of the best events of the year.
The Special Athletic Competition, hosted by Winona Area Public Schools, will be held on Friday, May 17 at Paul Giel Field.
This year’s event will once again feature students from all WAPS buildings in addition to students from schools around the region. In total, 195 athletes from 13 different school districts will participate.
The event is free and open to the public.
The competition begins at 9 a.m. and ends approximately at noon. The Parade of Athletes will be held at 10:30 a.m.
The track and field events are for students from kindergarten through high school who have varying abilities. Events include the softball throw, ball kick, long jump, bean bag toss, 5-yard dash and a 4x50 relay race.
There will be face painting and adaptive activities for the athletes and their families.
This event is sponsored by Winona Area Public Schools and Kiwanis Sunrisers of Winona, with donations from Alliant Castings, Jim’s Truck and Trailer Coachwerks, Excel Images, Team Maroushek — REAL, First Student, Kimo’s Portable Toilets, Pro Cal, Kids Physical Therapy and Saint Mary’s University.
