Jonas Trombetta, left, and Anni Skillicorn received all-state honors following the MSHSL state Nordic ski meet on Friday, Feb. 14 at Giants Ridge near Biwabik, Minn.

There were a couple of Winhawks who added another chapter to an already storied history this winter sports season.

The Winhawks Nordic ski team, one of the most successful in school history with two team state champions and four individual champions, added another couple of all-state performers in February thanks to Anni Skillicorn and Jonas Trombetta.

Skillicorn, the fourth skier in program history to compete in five state meets, earned her third all-state honor by placing 11th in the girls race at the state meet on Friday, Feb. 14 at Giants Ridge near Biwabik, Minn.

Skillicorn also was 10th as a junior and 20th as a sophomore. Skillicorn, who is headed to Northern Michigan as a cross country and track and field athlete, joined Amy Cichanowski, Bryan Ihrke and Garrett Heath as the only Winhawks to compete in five state meets.

Earning all-state honors for the first time was Trombetta, a senior who finished 25th at the state meet. He's the 19th boys skier in Winona history to earn all-state honors.

Also competing at the state meet were Ryan Meyer (65th overall) and Rory Briggs (101st overall).
