SEMAC grant Artist in Residency for Madison SLIP

SEMAC grant Artist in Residency for Madison SLIP

Madison’s SLIP program has been awarded a SEMAC (Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council) grant for an artist residency during the week of Februrary 19-23rd. This award provides a unique opportunity for the students to collaborate on a cultural and artistic project with a native Spanish-speaking artist.

During each day of that week, Gustavo Boada, a puppeteer from Peru, and his assistant, Allison, will work with each SLIP classroom for an hour. The students will be learning Latin American folk tales and creating their own puppets to act out the stories they are learning.

On Friday, February 23rd, the students will be performing the folk tales with their puppets from 5 – 6 pm in the Madison Elementary cafeteria. This performance is free and open to the public.
