School Counselor Highlight

School Counselor Highlight

I have been a school counselor in the Winona Area Public Schools for 14 years.  Since 2005, I have served students and families at Madison, Rollingstone, Central, Goodview, Washington-Kosciusko Elementary schools, as well as several non-public schools.  Serving on numerous committees and teams across the district has helped me learn and grow professionally.  The best part about my job is going into the classrooms and teaching social-emotional lessons.  I love seeing the kids get excited about being a good friend, learning how to handle their emotions, and working together as a team.   Small groups are a great way to help students in areas where they need to grow or receive extra support, such as: friendship skills, anger management, self-regulation, grief and family change.  I also provide Individual counseling for students.   There are challenges and accomplishments to be celebrated every single day!

I also love being a wife and mom.  My husband, Steve, and I have 6 kids together: Hunter (22), Summer (20), Briar (15), Elijah (14), Lael (13) and Levi (10).  We enjoy the outdoors, especially boating and fishing.  We also love going to our kids’ sporting events.  Every season is something fun and exciting.  Self-care is a critical part of my job so I started teaching piano lessons as a little hobby a few years ago.  I also enjoy running, and I have completed 5 marathons.  Spending time with my family and friends helps beat the stress of daily life.  I look forward to many more years of serving the students and families of the Winona community.
