They did it!

The Winona Area Learning Center on Wednesday celebrated its graduating class in an intimate ceremony filled with love.

School board member Jim Schul told the students the resilience they have shown to get to this point will help them build bright, successful futures. Also speaking at the event were principal Jolene Danca and superintendent Brad Berzinski. Counselor Kerry Thesing read off the names of the graduates, smiling and fighting back tears as she did so.

After receiving their diploma, the graduates were offered the chance to hit the gong — a tradition of graduating students. Then, they proceeded past the ALC staff members, many of which didn't settle for just a handshake. There were lots and lots of hugs.

The Winona Area Learning Center offers students a second chance at learning, and it does so with teachers and staff members who build relationships with compassion, empathy, dedication and committment. That is fully evident at every ALC graduation.
