Letter to families: Addressing your distance learning questions

Letter to families: Addressing your distance learning questions
WMS distance learning resources

Hello middle school families —

Congratulations on finishing your first day of distance learning. As our superintendent mentioned last week, this is a work in progress and will require patience, understanding and teamwork from all involved.

We want to thank those families who reached out to our teachers, counselors or administrators to share the challenges they faced on the first day of distance learning. This helps us make sure the process works for all of our families.

Please make sure you read the distance learning plan. There is a page on our website that has wide-ranging information, as well as a document that contains just the Winona Middle School plan.

Many of the questions we received centered around Schoology. Here are a few things to know about this online learning platform:

  • Schoology is ironing out performance issues, but as of right now is operating normally. The status of Schoology can be monitored at this site: Schoology Status. Like many other online learning platforms, the surge of users is causing issues, but they are solving problems as they arise.
  • Students should sign into Schoology at WAPS.schoology.com and choose their school Google account to receive access.
  • Parent codes for Schoology can be found in the Infinite Campus parent portal under Schoology Parent Access Code (click “More,” then “Additional Student Info” to find the code, as shown in these photos). Instructions for creating a parent account (as well as adding multiple students) can be found here: Creating a Parent Account in Schoology.
  • Student technical difficulties such as malfunctioning microphones, cameras, keyboards, chargers, etc. can be reported here: Student Technical Support Request Form.
  • Please contact teachers by Schoology message (or email if you are not able to get into Schoology) about where to start and organization of the course.

Our main priority this week is to make sure our students and families feel supported during this shift to distance learning. Please let us know if there is anything you need at this time.

Thank you,
Winona Middle School
