Jefferson Elementary 2nd grade students learn the life of a seed

On May 15th, 2nd grade students at Jefferson Elementary had the opportunity to plant peas, beans and corn in raised gardens next to the school. In small groups, the students used their sensory skills and observed each seed and discussed similarities and differences. Next, they were able to make way in the dirt to plant the seeds. Mr. Martin, Jefferson Elementary 2nd grade teacher stated, “The 2nd grade students were so excited to start their garden beds! Over the week, the 2nd grade students cleared the garden beds and distributed fresh soil for the arrival of their seeds. Students spent time digging through old soil and studying roots as they pulled them.” Since the beginning of May, students have been learning about the life cycle of a seed and the study of plant needs for successful growth. All students are excited to watch their seeds grow!
