Jacobs wins again, Winhawks split two on road

MANKATO, Minn. — Ari Jacobs won her third match of the season to lead the Winona Senior High School girls tennis team to a split in a Big 9 Conference triangular on Thursday at Mankato East.

Jacobs, a junior, beat Serena David 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to lead the Winhawks (2-2, 2-2) to a 5-2 win over Faribault. 

Winona swept the singles matches from the Falcons. Junior Emma Heinert beat Rachel Bostwick 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles; freshman Molly Heinert beat Hailey Reuvers 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and freshman Jadia Oudel beat Bailey Peterson 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

At No. 3 doubles, junior Ruby Baker and freshman Josie Gunderson added a point in Winona's tally with a 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 thriller over Katherine Jasinski and Rylie Starkson. 

Winona then lost to Mankato East 5-2. Julia Reeck picked up a win for the Winhawks at No. 4 singles, beating Tiegen Richards 6-2, 5-7, 10-4. At No. 2 doubles, Abby Fratzke and Marissa McNally beat Hannah Rigdon and Makena Wassman 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. 

A busy week for the Winhawks continues Friday and Saturday with a flurry of nonconference matches in the La Crosse area. On Friday, Winona plays La Crosse Aquinas and La Crosse Logan, while on Saturday the Winhawks play La Crosse Central, Onalaska and Holmen.
