Friendship Center guests visit Goodview students during lunch

A partnership with the Friendship Center in Winona and Goodview Elementary School has provided students the chance to connect with community members. A few members of the Friendship Center visit the Goodview lunchroom to sit and talk with students during their lunch period. During these conversations, students talk and ask questions as well as the community members. Asking what they did over the weekend, how their day is going or what they are learning are just a few conversation topics that are discussed.

Diana Cyert, a member at the Friendship Center, went around to tables on April 1st to talk with as many students as she could. She enjoys the experience and said she is surprised by how much she learns from the students. The curiosity and excitement that the students have when they are talking with the guests make this partnership successful. The bridge between the community members and school is an important part in making each student feel valued and have a successful future.

Goodview Elementary Principal, Emily Cassellius stated, “The partnership with the Friendship Center has added value to the students’ lunchtime. The students learn to have casual conversation during mealtime and have an adult to talk with and learn from. The students enjoy lunchtime with their new friends.”
