Next stop: Kindergarten!

Winona Area Public Schools, which has inspired, engaged and empowered generations of children since 1861, is getting ready to welcome the Class of 2037 with a free and fun kindergarten exploration event.

All Aboard for Kindergarten at Winona Area Public Schools will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5 at Winona Middle School, 1570 Homer Road.

Future Winhawks and their family members are invited to learn more about everything that WAPS has to offer.

The event will feature a free dinner for all family members (until 6 p.m.), a free toy train for future Winhawks in the Class of 2037, and free activities for the whole family. Meet staff, ask questions and discover why so many Winona area families continue to choose WAPS to inspire, engage and empower their child.

If you are unable to attend the event, visit winonaschools.org/kindergarten to learn more about the kindergarten registration process.

Registration for the 2023-24 school year will begin on Thursday, Feb. 1. Registration can be completed online at winonaschools.org/enroll, or by calling 507-494-0870.

Once registered, students will receive an invitation to attend an open house at their school scheduled for Monday, April 1. The open house is an opportunity for incoming kindergartners and their families to meet teachers, explore their new school and receive a Winhawk goodie bag.

WAPS also proudly offers the Ríos Dual Language Spanish Immersion program, a free choice program that provides educational experiences that support bilingual development in Spanish and English. In Grades K-4, the Ríos program is housed at Jefferson Elementary. An initial application window will be open from Feb. 1 through Feb. 23. More information about Ríos can be found at winonaschools.org/rios.

Winona Area Public Schools embraces the challenge to develop students who can problem solve, work together and take risks. This starts in kindergarten by learning through play. Curriculum at all levels will ensure students are given opportunities to understand multicultural perspectives and how inclusion is important in a democratic society.
