AIPAC invites community to celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day

The American Indian Parent Advisory Committee invites the Winona Area Public Schools community to take part in various events, webinars and film screenings to mark Indigenous Peoples' Day on Monday, Oct. 12. 

University of Minnesota Indigenous Culture Week 2020 Kick Off Celebration

  • When: 2-3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12
  • What: The University of Minnesota kicks off its Indigenous Culture Week 2020, highlighting a week long of programming/engagement activities to celebrate indigenous culture everywhere. The event will celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ day with songs, guest speakers, and stories.

Upstander Project Indigenous Peoples’ Day Event

Historical trauma discussion and “Dodging Bullets” screening

  • When: 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12
  • What: Watch a screening of the movie “Dodging Bullets” and take part in a webinar on discussion about social justice issues and historical trauma with Winona LaDuke and two of the film’s co-directors: Kathy Broere and Sarah Edstrom.

Indigenous Film Night: “Gather”

  • When: 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13
  • What: As part of Indigeneous Culture Week 2020, the University of Minnesota is hosting a screening of “Gather,”  an intimate portrait of the growing movement amongst Native Americans to reclaim their spiritual and cultural identities through food sovereignty, while battling against the historical trauma brought on by centuries of genocide. During the film, there will be a chat feature to engage.
