2018-19 School Calendar Update

2018-19 School Calendar Update

As of Tuesday, February 26, Winona Area Public Schools has lost 9 instructional days due to weather in the 2018-19 school year.  At this point, the State of Minnesota has not presented districts with a waiver for any lost instructional days due to extreme weather conditions, at the March 7 Board meeting,  the Winona School Board approved the following changes in an effort to redeem some of the missed instructional time:

  • April 1, 2019: Full Instructional Day -- This day was scheduled as a non-instructional workshop day, however, this would become a full day of instruction.
  • April 24, 2019: Full Instructional Day -- This day was a scheduled early release day, however, this would become a full day of instruction.
  • May 10, 2019: Full Instructional Day --This day was a scheduled make-up day on the calendar and would become a full day of instruction.
  • May 23, 2019: Full Instructional Day -- This day was a scheduled early release day, however, this would become a full day of instruction.
  • May 24, 2019: Full Instructional Day --This day was a scheduled make-up day on the calendar and would become a full day of instruction.
  • June 7, 2019: Full Instructional Day -- This day was scheduled as a non-instructional workshop day, however, this would become a full day of instruction.

Additional make up days for staff will be determined and announced at a later date.

We understand that making up instructional time due to weather cancellations is not ideal but it is important that we put the safety of our students first when making these weather-related decisions.  All of these proposed dates will need to be approved by the WAPS School Board at their upcoming March 7 meeting. Following that meeting, another message will be sent to families.
