2017-2018 State Appearances Recap

Take a moment and look back at our outstanding state appearances from our students at WSHS during the 2017-2018 school year. #WinhawkProud 

Football –State Semi Final. Nick Waldo named Winona Daily News Player of the Year and Coach John Cassellius names Sportsperson of the Year.

Cross Country Boys- Finished 15th at State, Carter Briggs leads Winona with a 44th place finish.

Girls Swim & Dive: Alexa Lofgren and Morgan Walker qualified for State

Gymnastics: Callie Van Dyke qualified to compete at State

Nordic Ski Girls Team: Finished 12th at State with 230 points. Anni Skillicorn finished 22nd overall for girls and Mitchell Ploetz finishes 84th as the lone male qualifier.  

Boys Swim & Dive – Finished 2nd as a team with only 9 swimmers. Griffin Wolner finished swim career with 5 state titles two 2nd places and three other medals!  Griffin was named MN Swimmer of the Year along with Coach Meyer being named Coach of the Year. 400 Free Team and 4x50 team took 1st at state. Grant Wolner finished 3rd in the 100 breast and 3rd in the 20. Griffin finished 2nd in the 500 and took 1st in the 200.  Jack Herczeg took 1st in the 100 Free and took 3rd in the 50 Free.   

Wrestling: Ryan Henningson finished 3rd at state, Jack Vaselaar finished 5th and Trevor Pomeroy also qualified to compete at state.

Softball: Finished 4th at state.

Track & Field: Noah Schultz qualified in the 400.  Robert Warren took 3rd in the 100m and 4th in the 200m at state.  

Girls Golf: Lexi Partington took 32nd at state

Band: Austin Weatherhead performed with the All State Honor Band
