Threat against WMS deemed not credible by law enforcement

Hello families,

Late last night, the Winona Police Department was made aware of a threat against the middle school. Working with Winona Middle School administration, law enforcement was able to make contact with the family of the student who allegedly made the verbal threat. The student does not have access to weapons. The police department determined the threat to not be credible. 

The student will not be attending school today. We are unable to provide additional details in order to protect the privacy of anyone involved in any potential ongoing investigation. 

We want to thank local law enforcement for working with us quickly to investigate the threat and confirm that it was not credible. We also want to thank the students and individuals who reported it. The sooner these incidents are reported to us and to law enforcement, the faster they can be investigated. 

Any threat of violence is taken seriously. Student safety is our top priority, and it is also a shared responsibility. We are thankful to the many students and staff in our building who share our values and cooperated to keep our school safe.
