Babysitting & Home Alone Classes for Students

Hello families,

Is this the summer you’re thinking about giving your child a bit more independence — whether staying home alone for a few hours or taking on their first babysitting job? We’ve got two great opportunities on the first day of summer to help them get ready!

Both classes will be held on Friday, June 5 at the Winona Middle School Media Center. Students attend independently and should bring a notebook and pen.

Child & Babysitting Safety (CABS) Class

9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Friday, June 6

WMS Media Center

For students entering grades 4-12

This American Safety and Health Institute course is designed to set students up for babysitting success! With engaging videos, handouts, demonstrations, and expert guidance, your child will learn the essentials of babysitting — including business basics, safety, caregiving, and first aid.

Participants who complete the course will receive a certification card valid for two years.

Home Alone Safety Class

12:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Friday, June 6

WMS Media Center

For students entering grade 3 and up

Is your child ready for the responsibility of being home alone? This class covers what they need to know to stay safe and feel confident when home without adult supervision. Topics include safety routines, emergency preparedness, handling strangers, severe weather, and more.

Parents are encouraged to review the take-home materials with their child.
