An update on student medication drop-off

An update on student medication drop-off

Hello families,

Thank you to the families who reached out with concerns about medication drop-off before the start of the school year. We heard you, and our staff have made some adjustments to provide an earlier opportunity for families of our younger students to bring medications to school.

Families of students in early childhood and Grades K-8 may drop off medications on Thursday, Aug. 27 during previously scheduled back-to-school events.

For students at Goodview, Jefferson and Washington-Kosciusko — including Community Kids Preschool students at Goodview and W-K — medications may be dropped off during back-to-school conference hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27. You may drop off medication that day even if your child’s conference is scheduled for Monday.

Families of Winona Middle School students may drop off medications during Rally Day from 2-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27.

As has been the case in the past, all medications must be accompanied by the medication form linked here.

At this time, we are not able to accept medication drop-offs at Winona Senior High School or the Winona Area Learning Center until Tuesday, Sept. 1. We also will not be able to accept medication drop-offs at any of our buildings, including elementary and early childhood, on Monday, Aug. 31.

As we shared earlier this week, WAPS was unable to hire a full-time, on-site school nurse for the upcoming school year. This year, we will be partnering with Avel eCare to provide virtual school nursing services. On Monday, Aug. 31, our health secretaries will participate in training with Avel so they are prepared to support students when school begins. Because they will be in training that day, they will not be available to receive medications.

We appreciate the families who shared their concerns with us, and we are grateful to the staff members who adjusted their schedules to make the Thursday drop-off option possible. Thank you for your patience and partnership as we prepare to welcome students back to school.
