Special Education

  • Students/families who have an Individualized Educational Plan/Individualized Family Service Plan will continue to receive a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) via their IEP. Special Education Case Managers will be in contact with every parent/guardian of students with IEP/IFSPs in order to develop an addendum to each IEP/IFSP. The addendum will include a COVID-19 Contingency Plan (CCP) and Prior Written Notice (PWN). The addendum will review all services and supports in each IEP to determine the best way to implement the IEP in  each model of delivery: in-person, hybrid or distance learning. This will allow for a seamless transition from one service delivery to another if/when the model changes. 
  • Special Education staff (teachers, educational assistants, support and related service providers) will provide specialized instruction and services based upon the CCP. 
  • Special education staff will typically follow the building’s instructional schedule.  However, due to the nature of the need for individualized instruction, specific arrangements may be made outside of these time frames in order to meet individual needs. Special education staff will be sharing contact information with students and families.
  • Students will be expected to participate in their general education instruction and activities, where appropriate and special education services will continue to support access to and progress in the general education curriculum. Special education services are in addition to general education. For the few students that do not participate, or have limited participation in general education, can seek clarification with your student’s case manager. 

Section 504

504 plans will continue to be followed as appropriate based upon the nature of the required accommodations. If you have questions about specific accommodations on the 504 plans during distance learning, contact your building office.
