Reconfiguration Reminder
As a reminder, beginning in the 2025-26 school year:
- All kindergarten students will attend Goodview Elementary, including kindergarten students in the Ríos Spanish Dual Language Immersion program.
- Students in Grades 1-4 will be split between Jefferson Elementary and Washington-Kosciusko Elementary. The current Goodview attendance area will become part of the Jefferson attendance area. The W-K boundary did not change.
- Grades 1-4 in the Ríos program will move to W-K.
- The Community Kids Preschool program will continue to have a presence at both Goodview and W-K.
The plan does not include any changes for the Winona Middle School, Winona Senior High School and the Winona Area Learning Center.
Elementary Back to School Conferences
To start the school year, all elementary teachers will hold individual conferences with students and families to build the foundations of a collaborative relationship that will support growth and learning in the classroom and at home.
The conferences will take place on Thursday, Aug. 28 and Tuesday, Sept. 2. Families will soon receive an email with instructions on how to sign up for a conference time. We expect that to happen some time during the week of Aug. 15, 2025. Thank you for your patience.
Popsicles with the Principal
Families are invited to attend a "Popsicles with the Principal" event at each of our elementary schools before the school year begins. All events will take place on the school playgrounds at the dates and times listed below.
| School | Date | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Goodview | Thursday, Aug. 21 | 5:30-6:30 p.m. |

There is no standard school supply list for all high school students because the schedules for each student can vary. Students should expect to have pens and pencils, as well as a folder and notebook for each class. Additional supplies may be required by teachers.
That being said, our classrooms are always in need of supplies. We are asking that families who are able to do so make donations of the following items to the school. They will be distributed to classrooms accordingly.
- Boxes of Kleenex
- Dry erase markers
- Pencils
School Meals
At Winona Area Public Schools, we believe every student deserves nourishing meals to fuel their learning, growth and well-being. Once again, we are proud to join Minnesota’s Free School Meals Program. This means every student can enjoy one healthy breakfast and one healthy lunch at no cost each school day.
No application is needed to receive these free meals, but completing the Application for Educational Benefits is still very important. Your application may unlock additional supports for your child — such as reduced fees for school activities, program discounts, and access to other meal programs. It also helps our schools qualify for additional funding that benefits all students.
Together, we can ensure every child has what they need to thrive.
You can complete the Application for Educational Benefits in two ways:
- By mail or in person: Print this form and return it to WAPS School Nutrition, 901 Gilmore Ave., Winona, MN 55987
- Online: Submit your application electronically by clicking the link below.
