Adult Literacy

New Locations!

We are pleased to announce that Adult Literacy will have 3 locations; Maplewood Townhomes, MSC-Southeast and Wesley United Methodist Church.

GED-General Education Diploma

  Did you drop out of high school and now want to come back and get your high school equivalency diploma? Our GED/ABE classes will help you:

  • prepare for the GED® tests by covering the four subject areas of language arts, science, social studies, and math 
  •  offer Career Pathways services in the Health Careers Field and other in-demand careers

Classes are held:

  • Monday-Thursday 9:00-12:00 PM
  • Monday & Wednesday 6:00 - 8:00 PM

Classes are FREE and childcare is available. 

GED Testing

Testing is now completely computer based. Students will register online, find testing sites and times online and pay for the tests online (credit card or voucher) at: myged.com The testing site in Winona is located at: MN State College Southeast Learning Resource Center (LRC).

ESL-English Second Language

Grammar, pronunciation and conversation instruction for adult immigrants and refugees wanting to learn how to speak, read, and write English.

Classes are held:

  • Monday-Thursday 8:30-11:30 AM
  • Mondays-Wednesdays 6:00 - 8:00 PM

ABE-Adult Basic Education

Adult Basic Education classes are for learners who want to improve skills in reading, math, spelling & writing.

Classes are held:

  • Monday-Thursday 9:00-12:00 PM
  • Monday & Wednesday 6:00 - 8:00 PM

GED/ABE Distance Learning Hybrid

This class helps students complete their GED, or build the necessary math and/ or language arts skills to be successful in post-secondary education. The class has a strong focus on computer/digital literacy skills.

Classes are FREE and there is NO childcare.

Winona Digital Literacy Project

Winona DLP is a collaboration started between Winona Public Library and WAPS Adult Literacy. We are excited to have Minnesota State College Southeast as an important partner!

Provide ongoing training free of charge, for any community member needing to enhance their digital literacy skills through specific courses and open labs. We believe that improving the lives of individuals through digital literacy will only benefit our community as a whole.
